Peifer Appointed to PHEAA Board
3/17/2010

Rep. Mike Peifer (R-Monroe/Pike/Wayne) has been appointed to serve on the board of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), the nonprofit student aid organization.

“The agency was created by the Legislature to help students and parents pay for college, and continues to receive substantial financial assistance from the state for grants and loan programs,” said Peifer.  “I look forward to being a part of the legislative oversight of this important financial assistance organization.”

PHEAA oversees educational funding by offering grants and loans including Stafford loans, Keystone Best loans for both students and parents, and private loans to assist with college costs.

In Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties, PHEAA provided more than $2.3 million in state grants to 881 recipients during the 2008-09 college term.  The agency received more than $455 million in state funding, more than $403.6 million for education assistance grants, during the 2009-10 fiscal year.

PHEAA serves millions of students and thousands of schools nationally through its state grant program, loan guarantees, loan servicing, and financial aid processing systems.  PHEAA also develops innovative ways to ease the financial burdens of students and borrowers.
