Peifer Praises Passage of On-Time, No Tax-Increase Budget
6/30/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Peifer (R-Pike/Wayne) today announced his support for a responsible budget which would spend $30.18 billion, increase funding for education and fund government programs that serve needy citizens, without any new or increased taxes on Pennsylvania’s hard-working citizens.

The balanced budget was passed by the House and the Senate, and is now awaiting the signature of Gov. Tom Wolf. After today’s Senate vote, Peifer made the following statement:

“Today we put before the governor a fiscally sound spending plan that provides creative solutions and lives within our means, all while making historic investments in education. This spending plan is sustainable for future generations and protects Pennsylvania taxpayers.

“The budget includes $100 million in new state dollars for basic education, $20 million for special education, $30 million for early education, an increase of $41 million increase for higher education, and fully funds the Act 120 required school employee retirement contribution payments at $1.7 billion.

“The spending plan also includes increases to home-and community-based services for seniors and services for persons with disabilities, funds four state police classes for an additional 350 troopers, and restores funding eliminated by Gov. Wolf for agriculture research.

“As a member of the general assembly, not only do I have an obligation to be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars, I have an obligation to present a balanced, on-time budget by June 30. We have done that, and I urge Gov. Wolf to uphold his constitutional obligation to sign this good budget and move Pennsylvania forward.”
