Senior Citizens Expo Set for Sept. 4
Rep. Mike Peifer (R-Monroe/Pike/Wayne) and Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) will host the 2014 Senior Citizens Expo on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dingman Township Fire Hall, 680 Log Tavern Road in Milford (off Route 739). The free expo offers senior citizens, their family members and caregivers the opportunity to gather a variety of helpful information all in one place. Vendors will be on hand to share information and answer questions about: government services for senior citizens, nursing and personal care, physical therapy, senior living, hospice services, driver education and more. For added convenience, Pike County Transportation has a shared ride program that county residents age 65 or older may use to get to and from the expo. Reservations are required and must be made by Aug. 25 by calling 570-296-3408 or 1-866-681-4947. Anyone planning to use the service must be registered with the agency in advance of the expo. Senior citizens who have not used Pike County Transportation services before should allow a week for processing of their application.

Veterans Assistance Available Sept. 8
A representative of the American Legion Service Officer Outreach program will be at the Honesdale office of Rep. Mike Peifer on Monday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist veterans with various benefit programs, including compensation, education, pension, health care and death benefits. Veterans need not be a member of the American Legion to use the service. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 570-253-5533.

Second Mentored Youth Fishing Day Coming Up
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will host a second Mentored Youth Fishing Day on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, on 17 Panfish Enhancement lakes, including Lower and Upper Promised Land Lakes in Pike County and Bradys Lake and Gouldsboro Lake in Monroe County. To encourage participation, the commission reduced the price of a Labor Day one-day adult resident or adult non-resident to just $1. With issuing agent and transaction fees, the price for the one-day license is $2.70. The licenses will be available through the PFBC’s Outdoor Shop and various licensing agents on July 21. Other licensing agents will have them available on Aug. 24. Visit the PFBC website for a complete list of agents and the exact date they will have the license available. Youth anglers in the program must obtain a free PFBC-issued permit or purchase a voluntary youth fishing license. For detailed information, visit www.fish.state.pa.us.

PA Fair Guides Now Available
The 2014 Pennsylvania Fair Guide is now available online. Published by the state Department of Agriculture, the guide lists the dates, locations and contact persons for more than 100 agriculture fairs and events scheduled this summer and fall in Pennsylvania. Local fairs are scheduled as follows: Wayne County Fair, Aug. 1-9; West End Fair, Aug. 24-30; Green-Dreher-Sterling Fair, Aug. 26-Sept. 1.
