HARRISBURG – Five communities in Pike County will receive $700,000 in gaming fund grants from the state, Reps. Mike Peifer (R-Monroe/Pike/Wayne) and Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) announced today.

“These grants are providing some much-needed funding for projects here in Pike County,” Peifer said. “I am pleased we have been able to make good use of these gaming funds to benefit our citizens.”

Brown added, “I believe these projects will enhance the services provided in Pike County, and I know the funds will be truly utilized.”

The funding was awarded through the local share assessment (LSA) established by the Pennsylvania Horse Race and Gaming Development Act. The local funds are generated by the Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono. The grants were awarded as follows:

• Delaware Township – $200,000. The funding will be used for the first phase of improvements to Akenac Park, including the purchase of commercial-grade kitchen equipment, kitchen expansion/upgrades, and for the construction of a secondary access road for emergency vehicles.
• Milford Borough – $87,000. The funding will be used for Safe Haven of Pike County for renovations at its new building, including upgrades to the heating system, installation of a generator, aesthetic improvements, and construction of a private healing area.
• Lackawaxen Township – $33,840. The funding will be used for the construction of a salt shed to both protect groundwater and extend the useful life of materials.
• Matamoras Borough – $300,000. The funding will be used to install or replace the curbs and sidewalks along Pennsylvania Avenue.
• Shohola Township – $65,000. The funding will be used for construction of a weatherproof salt shed.
