HONESDALE – Highlighting local businesses who have continued to contribute to local communities and making them a brighter place, Reps. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) and Mike Peifer (R-Pike/Wayne) offer their congratulations to Watson Brothers, a garage/general store based in Hawley and White Mills for their 52 years of service and dedication to Wayne County.
“Congratulations to Watson Brothers on serving our community for over 50 years,” said Fritz. “It was a pleasure to recognize them. I’ve known the family my entire life and appreciate that they are genuinely kind and caring. You’re met with a smile when walking through the door. Their business still runs strong, thanks to their friendliness and attention to helping people out.”
“It’s great to see local family members working together in our community,” said Peifer. “They are wonderful, hard-working people and I wish them 50 more years of success.”
The Watson brothers started their multi-location businesses with a cinderblock and wood building in White Mills in 1968. The men report it took them six months to get the service station building up, which they built by themselves. By 1969, the brothers expanded and added another service/gas station, the Sunoco station in Hawley. And, in 1970, they added the Sunoco station that was located next to Turkey Hill in Honesdale. Then, in 1976, they started the car wash west of Hawley on State Route 6. ln 1979, they added extra garage space and a grocery store and deli to the White Mills location. James and Marvin then decided they would consolidate the business and run just the garage/grocery store in White Mills and the car wash in Hawley.
